The stabilizer is connected to the control arm with the coupling rod. Forces are being transferred by the wheel suspension to stabilize the behavior of the vehicle in case of unevenness of the road. The connection of the coupling rod to the stabilizer and control arm is done via a rubber or rubber-metal bearing.
Without a coupling rod, the stabilizer can not perform single spring movements of the wheels. A broken coupling rod can be detected through unusual noises and enhanced bearing play. The coupling rod must always be replaced at the latest, after the mileage of a vehicle reaches about 150,000 kilometers.
