The v-ribbed belt is the successor to the v-belt and fulfills the same function. The v-ribbed belt as well as the v-belt, provides a connection between the various pulleys. Furthermore, the resulting forces of the motor will be transferred via these belts to the fan, water pump, the hydraulic pump of the power steering and the air conditioning compressor.
The v-ribbed belt - the function
The piston within the internal combustion engine is fired by the combustion of the air-fuel mixture. This turns the connecting rod, which in turn drives the crankshaft. The crankshaft passes its power on to the v-ribbed belts, which now can power more accessories. In addition, the v-ribbed belt ensures the correct operation of the motor. The v-ribbed belt has the structural advantage to transfer the torque of the vehicle's engine on more units at the same time, compared to the old style v-belt.
