Fuel filters have to fulfill the task of screening out solids, such as dirt, rust and other solid impurities that can be found in gasoline. The filters are mostly filled with a paper-like substance and can differ in their construction, depending on what kind of fuel should be filtered. The filter used for diesel engines therefore uses a different cartridge than the filter that is directly build into the supply lines for gasoline vehicles. It is important to change the filter regularly. This will prevent contaminated fuel from getting into the engine and thus damaging the fuel pump or cause general wear and tear. It is relatively simple to remove the filter from the fuel line and replace it with a new filter.
